Labels for Grayton Beer

From the brew to the artwork, everything about Grayton Beer's latest special release is handmade the old way. Thirteen Silver Dollars Barleywine draws on the old-world tradition of American Barleywine. And if it wasn't patriotic enough, they put some of it away to age in bourbon barrels. And when it emerged, they called it High & Mighty.

The Florida brewery asked us to create hand-illustrated labels to bring these two country-song-inspired names to life. Art Director Mark Walter literally handcrafted the main components of the design in order to capture the essence behind the brewing techniques.

Designs for Five Wits Brewery

In 2019 Nathan Michaels, Elliott Kehoe, Brian Harris and Mike & Taylor Monen launched a new brewery: Five Wits. The team brought brewing know-how from Colorado to add to the growing craft-brewing scene in Chattanooga.

The Five Wits identity and original packaging designs were created by Charleston designer Gil Shuler. But as the brewery opened in late 2019 and marketing needs grew, Five Wits turned to help from the local designers at Widgets & Stone.

Widgets & Stone built and expanded on the lively design styles Shuler established, then supplied much needed materials like sales sheets, product photography, web design, vehicle wraps and concept art.

Imbibe brand identity and signage

Josh and Nancy Carter (owners of award winning restaurants St. John’s and St. John’s Meeting Place in Chattanooga) partnered with a group accomplished entrepreneurs to open a new store for fine wines, spirits and beer. The group hopes to bring the same high level of customer service and knowledge of fine dining restaurants to the experience of shopping for wine, liquor and beer. They asked the talented designers and architects of Cogent Studio to design the store, and turned to Widgets & Stone for help with identity and signage designs.

With great input from the Carters, the design team drew inspiration from the interior design and architecture of the warehouse space and elaborated on it. The end result is a limited color palette with strong typography appropriate to barrels, corkscrews and loading docks. The biggest inspiration for the customized logotype (a slightly modified version of the face Sullivan) coming from the signage structure on the front of the building.

Creative Direction: Paul Rustand; Design: Bradley Dicharry, Travis Hitchcock; Architecture: Cogent Studio; Sign Fabrication & Installation: Victory Signs (exterior), Graphic Works (interior).
