Labels for Grayton Beer

From the brew to the artwork, everything about Grayton Beer's latest special release is handmade the old way. Thirteen Silver Dollars Barleywine draws on the old-world tradition of American Barleywine. And if it wasn't patriotic enough, they put some of it away to age in bourbon barrels. And when it emerged, they called it High & Mighty.

The Florida brewery asked us to create hand-illustrated labels to bring these two country-song-inspired names to life. Art Director Mark Walter literally handcrafted the main components of the design in order to capture the essence behind the brewing techniques.

Uma

Identity design

A recent logo and packaging design for uma ceramics, creators of unique wheel-thrown mugs for use during your morning reflection, or for anytime you need to slow down and give yourself a moment.

Designer Travis Hitchcock and Design Director Liz Tapp worked closely with uma founder Mapi Ormachea to develop the brand – a neutral, tranquil, subtly feminine textural pattern and palette, paired with a bolder logo and “potters mark” – all meant to relay the reflection and contemplativeness the brand hopes to encourage with its vessels.

The Whole Package

Escadrille cycling gear

The relatively new startup Escadrille – makers of high end custom cycling apparel – approached Widgets & Stone for initial concepts in packaging. The new company didn’t have much to go on: the logo was in the process of being re-engineered, the brand story and film was yet to be developed (by McFaul+Day of the UK), a marketing plan was in flux and even the apparel designs were still being finalized.

So, the team Widgets & Stone just went with the flow – helping to visualize a simple yet flexible packaging system that could accommodate different products and different sizes, all while still looking like a top quality brand.

The team worked on a variety of concepts for both the brand identity and the packaging style. In the end, a concept proposed by Escadrille’s founder Jordan Humble won the day: a tube design, inspired by fine bourbon packaging. The unique package shape works extremely well with the different apparel item sizes and shapes – especially bibs with padding inside.
