Civic IQ

2019 Poster series

Chattanooga’s CIVIQ is a quarterly event which introduces and humanizes national and international movements in urban design by showcasing visionary work being done by practitioners in other cities. With each free public event, CIVIQ aims to make attendees to leave inspired, informed, and activated. More than a lecture, each event is intended to equip the city to think differently about challenges faced in our community.

With a poster grid structure established by designers Ben Dicks and Mark Walter, Widgets & Stone created posters inspired by the speakers and topics. The only unifying elements in the series are the colors and the grid.

Creative Direction: Paul Rustand; Design: Brad Dicharry; Mark Slawson; John Le.

Do You Hear the People Sing?

Do You Hear the People Sing?

#HeartEchoesDrums

Campaign design for the 2016 season of the Chattanooga Football Club. Widgets & Stone’s design team drew on inspiration from the lyrics of “Do You Hear the People Sing” to capture the wild enthusiasm of the city that embraced the soccer team at the end of 2015: over 18,000 fans attended the NPSL National Championship game in August of 2015.

A simple black and white photo treatment, activated by dynamic diagonals and wonderful photography helps to tell the story of the joy of the game — both for the team and for the fans.

Outstanding photography contributed by Ray Soldano, Pat & Tom Corey and Jim Meyers.

Creative Direction: Paul Rustand; Design: Matt Greenwell and Travis Hitchcock.

We Believe In Main Street

Poster for AIGA Chattanooga and Mainx24

This December, the Chattanooga Chapter of the AIGA (the association for design in the US) hosted a show of custom designed posters during the seventh annual Mainx24 festival.

Designers were asked to create a poster that captured the spirit of the event and of Chattanooga in general. Paul Rustand (and Widgets & Stone) have a studio just off of Main St and have done many projects on Main St… So Paul grabbed a wonderful slogan that seemed to capture the sentiment — a slogan his colleague Matt Greenwell coined for Collier Construction (also on Main St) years ago.

Design: Paul Rustand.
