Making the Ascent

Making the Ascent

Capstone program web page

Covenant College had done the difficult part – identifying, defining and naming their unique capstone program “The Covenant Ascent.” But they found they needed help creating a landing page that articulated the information about the program in just the right way.

They asked us to help create a very clean and functional page that would give potential students all the necessary info they would need to learn about the program. We captured a drone video of the beautiful mountaintop campus, and then we designed a deceptively simple page in Webflow. The key component was the slide transitions walking through the program’s pyramid of steps over the course of student’s college career.

Visit the Ascent page here.

Off-brand as a Brand Strategy

Off-brand as a Brand Strategy

Covenant College MAT Posters

Widgets & Stone worked with the Covenant College Graduate School of Education in 2014 and 2015 to craft a new look and feel for its marketing materials and web site. The style was based on the design of Covenant’s new tartan, created in 2004 as part of its brand identity (by Hickman Lemmon). The bulk of Widgets & Stone’s work was targeted at professional teachers and administrators — most often those who didn’t attend the school.

Then the GSE asked for help in marketing to current undergrads enrolled at Covenant, to help build awareness and enrollment in its Master of Arts in Teaching program (MAT). The design team took an approach very similar to the work created for the Master Education program – strong elements of the tartan, its traditional colors and photos of the professors and campus.

But after more consideration of the target audience – current Covenant students, very familiar with the campus, the professors and the school tartan – designers Travis Hitchcock and Amy Trumbull decided to take the designs “off-brand” by making the tartan very graphic and in atypical colors.

26 Tools then added very clever headlines, targeted specifically for each over the almost 30 departments.

The poster campaign goes into effect this semester and next, along with an integrated campaign to help raise interest and increase enrollment.

Covenant GSE’s new web site

Covenant College launched a comprehensive new identity in 2004, but its application to the identity of the Graduate School of Education was not fully executed. For 2015 Widgets & Stone and 26 Tools were engaged to build new messaging for the school and Whiteboard was tasked to build the new web site.

The team worked together to create writing and designs that built on the identity of Covenant College, while still creating a sense of differentiation between the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Using styles established by Widgets & Stone, Whiteboard built on the WordPress platform the Covenant staff were familiar with and created a simple, clean design to best serve the needs of the school. The flexible design is highly functional and works on a variety of devices.

Gaining Knowledge. Growing Faith.

A new campaign for Covenant College’s Graduate School of Education

Covenant College believes that our understanding of the world informs and impacts every aspect of our teaching. So Covenant’s Graduate School of Education courses provide a Biblical understanding of education, which becomes the foundation of those in the profession of a teacher or administrator.
