Mark Slawson, Designer
A tractor-driving Mississippi native, Mark was always the kid sketching on his notepad in the back of the class. He became a designer when he discovered that his major, geology, wasn’t all about rocks — nor was it his calling. His approach to graphic design is informed by his appreciation for fine art, and he particularly enjoys projects that start with a blank canvas: whether that’s developing a new logo or laying out a poster. He finds parallels between design and his other great love, music.
Before Widgets, Mark co-founded Wild LifePrints, a screen printing and apparel company, and he interned for Hatch Show Print, where he developed his letterpress skills. He and fellow Widgets designer Travis Hitchcock co-founded Third Hand Press, a screen print studio that turns secondhand T-shirts into one-of-a-kind art prints. Mark earned his B.F.A. in graphic design at Mississippi State University.
